Bristol’s underground music scene isn’t defined by just one sound, but by a collective network of artists, friends, soundsystems, venues and a multi-cultural landscape. My project ’Soundcheck’ documents this unique and rare culture that Bristol proudly homes through portraiture and supporting imagery to make a project showcasing not only the artists, but the environments they exist within. Rather than focusing on just the music this project aims to create a broader document of Bristol’s underground music scenes.
This work has been heavily influenced by Bristol’s history of cultural diversity shaped by influences from the Caribbean diaspora and other communities within the city. My work aims to document how this influence is still seen in the underground scenes today.
This work was made to honour the city of Bristol, a place where a rich history of underground music continues to thrive and inspire.
